Attendance
The club currently runs 2 days a week on Monday-Wednesday between 6:30pm to 8:30pm and is open to anyone from the age of 5 years and up.
In order to be eligible to attend a grading a student must attend a minimum of 70% of lessons he or she commits to at the outset of their training.
Absence through school & family commitments or illness is acceptable and does not effect attendance requirements. This is not only a requirement on the Club but primarily that of the British Taekwondo Association, which is the governing body to which the Club belongs.

Practice makes perfect!
During a training session students will be instructed in techniques appropriate to their experience, age and rank. However, it is unlikely that a student will master a particular technique or pattern during the training session and a certain amount of practice outside of club hours is expected. This allows other techniques to be taught without having to go over basic techniques and concepts repeatedly in the training session, and also makes the
training sessions more interesting for students and instructors alike. If a student needs any guidance on what to practice or if they are practicing a technique or basic correctly, this can sought prior to the training session commencing whilst students and instructors are arriving and to a limited extent at the end of a session.

Uniforms
When a student commences training they are not expected to buy a Dobok uniform immediately. They should attend a few training sessions to see if Taekwondo is for them. However, if they intending to attend a grading they must wear a Dobok and belt. Suits start at about 20 Pound and can be bought through the club or from any martial arts store. Please note that the suit must be in the WTF World Taekwondo Federation style. Students should arrive at each training session with a clean, pressed and correctly fitting Dobok. Where sleeves and trousers are too long they should be rolled up as not to
obstruct the hands and feet. Finger nails and toe nails should be trimmed short. The club reserves the right to withhold training to any student who does not comply with the above. It is also advised that the student purchases arm and shin protectors for use in sparing. These start from around 10> 12 Pounds a pair for elasticated cotton pads.

Fees
The training fee is currently 3.00 Pound per session, however this does sometimes change depending on student numbers. The club is run on a not for profit basis. The instructors receive no income from the club. The training fees are used top pay for the hire of the hall, purchase any training aids kick
pads, shields etc., subsidize the grading fees, competition fees. The grading fee for a Kup grade coloured belt grade is currently 15.00 Pounds, Please note this fee is not refundable if you do not attend Grading. The grading fee for a ~ Dan grade Black belt grade is currently 45.00 Pounds, Please note this fee is not refundable if you do not attend Grading.

What is taught?
During a training session students will be instructed in techniques appropriate to their experience, age and rank. However, this will include the following
Hand Techniques This includes basic blocks and strikes i.e. punching, open hand strikes etc. Foot Techniques this includes stances and kicks i.e. the correct use of a stance in essential in delivering a strike or kick with its optimum efficiency

Patterns
There are nine patterns to learn prior to taking the ~ Dan Black belt. The patterns are a series of movements combing basic blocks, strikes, stances and kicks.

Sparring
All students are required to take part in light contact sparring. This enables the student to put into practice the basic hand and foot techniques they have learnt in a controlled environment. However, whilst the emphasise is on light contact accidents do occur from time to time, but this usually only extends to bruising in the junior students and heavy bruising, sprains and the occasional minor fracture in the senior and adult students. For those who wish to enter competition or take sparring a little further full contact sparing is available however, this is optional.

Self defence
This uses a combination of all of the above plus other techniques in the context of self defence.

Discipline
Discipline is a very important part of any martial art. Many of the techniques taught can be extremely dangerous if used without the appropriate control. This control comes in part from the development of self discipline in the student. The development of self control is assisted by the use of discipline in the form of press ups, star jumps etc. It is intended to be used to reinforce the required etiquette, rules and instructions. The use of discipline during the training session is never intended to be oppressive.

Gradings are held four times a year for Kup grades. These are held at the Lee Chee Kin club in Mexborough and are usually held on a Saturday in March, June September & December. Black belt grading's are held twice a year, usually at the end of March and September. At a Kup grading students are instructed to demonstrate particular techniques by a grading officer until the senior grading officer is satisfied that they have demonstrated the
techniques required for the their current. Students are then required to complete their respective pattern and then take part in between 3 > 6 light contact sparring sessions. Based on the student’s performance he or she is then awarded a grade. Students are not told on the day what their grade is. Students are usually informed of their grade at the next regular training session following the grading, at which time they are presented with their
certificate and trophy. It takes approximately 2 > 3 years to work from the White belt to the Black Belt. Students should note that the decision as to whether a student attends a grading rest with the chief instructor and depends upon the student’s progression since previous grading. The chief instructor retains the right to refuse training to any new or existing student who contravenes any of the rules of the club and the BTA.
